Member Spotlight: Meechelle Pindell

Welcome to the WOCN® Society Member Spotlight blog, featuring inspiring stories behind our members. In this edition, we’re spotlighting Meechelle Pindell, MSN, RN, CRRN, CWOCN, a dedicated WOC nurse based in Baltimore who has been a proud member since 2019.

WOC Nursing Journey
Meechelle’s journey into the world of wound, ostomy, and continence care was a serendipitous one. Faced with a pivotal moment in her career due to shifting family dynamics, she found herself welcomed into the world of wound care by a supportive team willing to take a chance on her. It was a fortuitous turn that ignited her passion for healthcare, driven by her innate nurturing personality and the desire to guide others towards living their best lives, even amidst challenges.

WOCN Society Membership
Joining the WOCN Society was a natural step for Meechelle. It provided her with invaluable opportunities to connect with fellow specialists in the field, fostering both personal and professional growth. For Meechelle, the cohesiveness within the WOCN Society stands out as a cherished aspect of her membership.

Proud Nursing Moments
Meechelle’s journey as a WOC nurse is marked by significant milestones, including being the first Black WOC nurse to join her organization. Starting her nursing career on the stroke unit in 2003, she transitioned to specialize in wound, ostomy, and continence care in April 2018.

One of Meechelle’s proudest moments came when she served as her team’s captain for The United Ostomy Associations of America, Inc. (UOAA) annual ostomy run. This opportunity not only allowed her to raise vital awareness and funds but also provided crucial support to the ostomy community she passionately serves.

Among the myriad of patient encounters, one story remains etched in Meechelle’s memory, highlighting the transformative impact a WOC nurse can have. Faced with a patient requiring innovative solutions due to a stoma within a large wound, Meechelle’s collaborative efforts with a local wound chapter group led to successful treatment. This patient’s journey from rehabilitation to eventual ostomy reversal underscores the profound impact of compassionate care and resourcefulness.
Meechelle’s guidance extends beyond medical interventions; she encourages her patients to personify their stoma by giving it a name. “It is through experience that I have learned and tell my patients, ‘If you are good to your stoma, it will be good to you,'” shares Meechelle, encapsulating her philosophy of holistic patient care.

Future Aspirations
Looking ahead, Meechelle envisions herself as an advanced practice WOC nurse provider. She is currently pursuing advanced education through Walden University’s Doctoral in Nursing Practice program. Her goal is to establish and lead a comprehensive wound and ostomy clinic, furthering her commitment to patient care and advocacy.

Life Beyond Nursing
Outside of her nursing duties, Meechelle finds joy in traveling, creating memories with her three children, and lending her voice to her church choir.

Thank You, Meechelle
On behalf of the WOCN Society, thank you, Meechelle, for being a valuable member of the WOCN Society. You continue to inspire others through compassion, innovation, and unwavering dedication to improving lives.
