Southeast Chapter Scholarships

The Southeast Chapter of the WOCN Society is proud to offer scholarship awards for those nurses wishing to attend an Accredited (WOC) Nursing Educational Program. Scholarship applications are accepted once per year.

Scholarship Criteria:

• Current active member of the Southeast Chapter of the WOCN Society – (Member of the WOCN Society with SEC selected as your chapter)
• Employed or willing to seek employment within the Southeast Chapter in the clinical practice of wound, ostomy, continence, or foot care nursing upon graduation
• Seeking education in wound, ostomy, continence, and/or foot nursing care at a WOCN accredited Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Education Program (WOCNEP) or Specialty Program
• Proof of one of the following:
  • Acceptance to a WOCN accredited WOCNEP or Specialty Program
  • Current enrollment in a WOCN accredited WOCNEP or Specialty Program
  • Certificate of completion from a WOCN accredited WOCNEP or Specialty Program, within three months of graduation
• A satisfactory letter of recommendation from professional associates who have known the applicant for at least one year (from current employer or colleague is preferred)
• Has not been awarded a scholarship from the SEC of the WOCN Society in the past three years
• To receive monetary award, requirements must be completed within 18 months of award notification
• Recipient(s) will receive the scholarship upon receipt of certificate of completion from a WOCN accredited WOCNEP or Specialty Progra
• All information potentially identifying the nominee will be redacted for an impartial blind vote by the Southeast Chapter board of directors
• Recipients will be notified by date stated in timeline
• Current board members are not eligible for this award

Scholarship recipients will be solely responsible for all federal, state and/or local taxes associated with the scholarship. In the event, a recipient receives an amount of $600 or more, they will be required to submit a W-9 form BEFORE receiving scholarship payment.

The SEC does not share/exchange application information with the WOCN Society.

The following items must be sent to the SEC of WOCN Society Scholarship Committee Chair and also copy manager@serwocn.org at time of submission. IF ITEMS ARE NOT RECEIVED (or postmarked) by the APPLICATION DEADLINE, THE APPLICATION WILL BE REJECTED.

• One letter of recommendation signed by the person writing the recommendation, preferably on letterhead
• Proof of one of the following: acceptance, current enrollment, or graduation (within current calendar year) from a WOCN accredited WOCNEP or Specialty Program
• Proof of current WOCN Society membership
• If available, proof of employment within the SEC of the WOCN Society

Scholarship Criteria:

• Current active member of the Southeast Chapter of the WOCN Society – (Member of the WOCN Society with SER selected as your chapter)
• Employed or willing to seek employment within the Southeast Chapter in the clinical practice of wound, ostomy, continence, or foot care nursing upon graduation
• Seeking a Master’s or Doctoral Degree or NP/CNS Certificate
• Proof of current enrollment or acceptance into a NLN accredited nursing program or other accredited college/university
• Certified by the WOCNCB in one of the following: wound, ostomy, continence, and/or foot care
• A satisfactory letter of recommendation from professional associates who have known the applicant for at least one year (from current employer or colleague is preferred)
• Has not been awarded a scholarship from the SEC of the WOCN Society in the past three years
• To receive monetary award, requirements must be completed within 18 months of award notification
• Recipient(s) will receive the scholarship upon receipt of transcripts for semester/quarter credit
• All information potentially identifying the nominee will be redacted for an impartial blind vote by the Southeast Chapter board of directors
• Recipients will be notified by date stated in timeline
• Current board members are not eligible for this award

Four $1000 conference scholarships will be awarded
Criteria:

• Current active member of the Southeast Chapter of the WOCN Society – (Member of the WOCN Society with SEC selected as your chapter)
• Engaged in clinical practice of wound, ostomy, continence, or foot care nursing
• Certified by the WOCNCB® in one of the following: wound, ostomy, continence and/or foot care
• Applicants who receive funding from employer for conference expenses may not be eligible for this scholarship.
• Agree to submit a short written or video summary (300 words or less) of your Conference experience. Summaries may be published (SEC of the WOCN newsletter or website) following the Conference.
• Self applications only
• Recipients will be notified by date stated in timeline

Notes:

• Recipients of this award are not eligible to receive the SEC of the WOCN Society Conference Scholarship in two consecutive years.
• **All expenses including conference registration, hotel, meals, and travel are the responsibility of the recipient. A $1000 scholarship will be awarded at Conference to each recipient to help offset conference expenses. Recipient must attend conference to receive the award.
• All information potentially identifying the nominee will be redacted for an impartial blind vote by the Southeast Chapter board of directors.
• Scholarship recipients will be solely responsible for all federal, state and/or local taxes associated with the scholarship and will be required to sign a tax document (W-9 form) BEFORE receiving scholarship payment.
