In this edition of the WOCN® Society Member Spotlight, we highlight Diane Adams, BSN, RN, CWCN, from Ohio. Diane has been a dedicated member of the WOCN Society for 14 years.
Journey into WOC Nursing
Diane’s interest in skin and wound care began during her time as a Medical-Surgical nurse with a focus on Endocrinology and Renal care. Observing diabetic foot ulcer treatments with orthopedic physicians inspired her to pursue a career.
Mentoring the Next Generation
Diane is passionate about passing on her torch of knowledge to new nurses entering the field. She finds it rewarding to see their interest in wound, ostomy, and continence nursing grow.
Joining the WOCN Society
Encouraged by her manager and mentor, Diane joined the WOCN Society after earning her BSN and becoming certified. Her favorite aspect of being a member is attending the annual conference, WOCNext, where she gathers valuable research and information to share with her team.
Proud Moments as a WOC Nurse
Diane takes pride in the high standard of care WOC nurses are known for, and she values the respect this brings from both staff and administration. Patients often return to thank her and her team after their wounds heal or following ostomy take-down surgeries.
Memorable Patients
For Diane, ostomy patients with cancer diagnoses hold a special place in her heart. These individuals often face difficult journeys, and their resilience leaves a lasting impact on her.
Looking Ahead and Life Outside of Work
Diane plans to continue her work in wound and ostomy care for another five to seven years before retiring. When not working, Diane enjoys baking, spending time with her family, and being outdoors.
