This year’s election determined the positions of President-Elect, Director (2 positions available), and Leadership Development Committee Members (2 positions available; Areas 1* and 3**). Click below to view the winners.

President-Elect
Derik Alexander, MSN, RN, FNP-BC, CWOCN, CFCN
Derik Alexander, MSN, RN, FNP-BC, CWOCN, CFCN, has been a member of the WOCN Society for 19 years. He works as a Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse Practitioner in the Department of Surgery at Dignity Health Medical Group, located at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Center. His educational background includes a Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of Phoenix (2009), a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Grand Canyon University (2004), an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing from El Paso Community College (1994), and a Licensed Vocational Nurse credential from St. Philip’s College (1991).

Joyce Pittman, PhD, RN, ANP-BC, FNP-BC, CWOCN, FAAN has been a member of the WOCN Society for 25 years. She works as an Associate Professor at the University of South Alabama, College of Nursing in Mobile, AL. Her educational background includes: Indiana University- PhD & MSN; University of South Florida- BSN; Palm Beach Junior College- ASN; Emory- WOC Education.

Carl (CJ) Crane, RN, BSN, CWON
Carl (CJ) Crane, RN, BSN, CWON, has been a member of the WOCN Society for 10 years. He works as an Inpatient Wound Care Nurse at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, VA. His educational background includes an ADN from San Antonio College, a BSN from Washington State University, and CWON certification from Emory University.

Ashlee Garcia, MSN, APRN, AGACNP-BC, CWOCN-AP, CFCN, CLT, has been a member of the WOCN Society for 11 years. She works as the Program Director of the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Department at Tucson Medical Center in Tucson, AZ. Her educational background includes being Masters prepared and a current student of a PhD in Nursing.

Elizabeth Feddersen, RN, BSN, MSN, FNP-C, CWON, CFCN, has been a member of the WOCN Society for 10 years. She works as an FNP-C, CWOCN, and CFCN providing primary care and wound, ostomy, and foot care for a 600-bed mental hospital at Oregon State Mental Hospital in Salem, OR. Her educational background includes a Diploma to BSN, WOCN and CFCN certifications, and an MSN with Family Nurse Practitioner credentials.
Leadership Development Committee Member, Area #3
Leah Abecassis, MSN, RN, CCRN, CWOCN
Leah Abecassis, MSN, RN, CCRN, CWOCN, has been a member of the WOCN Society for 6 years. She works as a Nurse Practice Specialist II at Boston Children’s Hospital in Boston, MA. Her educational background includes WOC education at Emory University and a Master’s in Nursing from Samuel Merritt University.
*Derik’s new position as President-Elect will create a one-year vacancy for the WOCN Treasurer position. According to Article VI, Section 9 of the WOCN Bylaws, “A current member of the Board is eligible to run for another position on the Board prior to the conclusion of his/her term. If the individual is successful, the individual will resign their position and the Leadership Development Committee will identify an individual that is qualified to fill the vacancy for remainder of the term and present to the Board for approval.” The Leadership Development Committee has recommended Joyce Pittman, PhD, RN, ANP-BC, FNP-BC, CWOCN, WOCNF, FAAN to serve as WOCN Treasurer for one (1) year to complete the remainder of Derik’s term. This appointment has been Board approved and will be effective starting in June 2025.
