Welcome to the first WOCN Society Member Spotlight blog, featuring the inspiring stories behind our members. This month, we’re spotlighting Dr. Charlie Buscemi—a nine-year member of the WOCN Society.
About Dr. Charlie Buscemi
Charlie P. Buscemi, PhD, APRN, CWCN, WOCNF, is a nine-year member of the WOCN Society. He entered the field of wound, ostomy, and continence care as a Registered Nurse previously working in home health with a specific interest in wound care. He has been working with Woundtech as a Nurse Practitioner for almost seventeen years, proud to have a tangible impact on patient lives every day.
Joining the WOCN Society
As an NP in academia, Dr. Buscemi sought proximity to the latest research in wound care and opportunities to participate at national and regional conferences. He also wanted to have consistent access to CEUs to renew his CWCN certification, which led him to join the WOCN Society.
His favorite aspect about being a member of the WOCN Society is participation in national committees, where he has met “the most intelligent nurses in WOC nursing.”
Meaningful WOC Moments
Dr. Buscemi is especially proud to work as a WOC professional, knowing he’s responsible for diagnosing wounds and ordering treatments—it’s a responsibility he doesn’t take lightly. He finds tremendous satisfaction in healing challenging wounds, especially when patients have lived with them for years.
Diagnosing Kennedy Pressure Injuries (End-of-Life Pressure Injuries) left a strong impression on Dr. Buscemi, a former Hospice nurse, as it requires assisting families with dying loved ones.
A Little Look Into His Life
When Dr. Buscemi is not treating patients, he and his husband love to travel the world, enjoy their beach house in Puerto Rico, and spend time with family and friends. Dr. Buscemi is also a trained classical flutist and has played with the Greater Miami Symphonic Band!
Thank You, Dr. Buscemi
On behalf of the WOCN Society, thank you, Dr. Buscemi, for the impact you’ve had on so many patients and for your valuable contributions to the profession of wound, ostomy, and continence care.
