The Power of A Awards, the industry’s highest honor, reward the outstanding accomplishments of associations and industry professionals who work tirelessly to solve problems, and strengthen lives, the workforce, the economy, and the world.
The 2021 award categories included The Power of Industry/Professional Advancement, The Power of Community Support and Engagement, The Power of Global Development, The Power of Diversity and Inclusion, and The Power of Advocacy. WOCN was one of 118 entries that the Power of A Awards Judging Committee reviewed in 2020 and one of 32 associations across the United States to be awarded a silver level honor in 2021 for WOCN® Ostomy Education Day under the category of The Power of Industry/Professional Advancement.

Overview of WOCN® Ostomy Education Day
Saturday, October 3, 2020 was the 10th Anniversary of the first Ostomy Day celebration, an event that unites the world to raise ostomy awareness and increase the positive visibility of those living with ostomies and those who treat and care for individuals with an ostomy. As part of this celebration, WOCN created a parallel education event, WOCN® Ostomy Education Day. This event was a FREE online experience aimed at celebrating ostomy awareness, dispelling myths, and increasing ostomy education to improve patient outcomes. This first-ever online education event was a blend of education and engagement, and featured 5 sessions led by experienced wound, ostomy, and continence (WOC) nursing professionals and subject matter experts, and gave nurse attendees an opportunity to earn 4.75 Contact Hours while networking with one another online, participating in session polls, and interacting with online clinical tools to improve patient outcomes.
Uniting Healthcare Professionals Around the Globe
While this event was created with the WOCN membership in mind, our ultimate goal was to promote attendance to all healthcare clinicians looking to improve their education, clinical practice, and patient outcomes. By marketing the event to other like-minded healthcare professionals and associations in addition to our membership, we were able to gain nearly 3,000 attendees that either participated live or accessed the content on-demand after the event took place, this included nearly 1,000 non-members and attendees from 22 countries around the world—setting new milestones for WOCN for widespread attendance outside of our membership!

Because of the reach of this one-day program, and the overwhelmingly positive reviews by attendees, WOCN has decided to hold this educational event yearly to coincide with Ostomy Awareness Day and to continue to promote the need for safe and effective ostomy care worldwide. Join us on Saturday, October 2, 2021 for another FREE full day of engagement featuring 8 sessions brought to you by experienced wound, ostomy, and continence (WOC) nursing professionals and subject matter experts.
